Courts Mammouth is the largest non-food retailer in Mauritius, operating in various outlets including Rodrigues and we are further planning to expand. Courts has always aimed to provide everything for the home under one roof and so its main retailing lines are furniture, electrical, electronic and leisure.

History
Courts is an international brand that began its journey as a furniture retailer in 1850 in Canterbury, England. It traded until the shop was damaged during the Second World War and it was then sold to the Cohen family in 1946. Conditions in Britain had of course worsened as a result of the war and Courts introduced credit to help its customers purchase goods to improve their homes. the business throughout the UK and internationally, coming to Mauritius as Courts Mammouth in 1985. The company was sold in the 1990s and was then bought back by a consortium led by the original Cohen family in 2015. It has since grown in both strength and the range of its offerings, even through the recent pandemic. Courts was honoured to be voted Business of The Year in Mauritius in 2020 and The People’s Choice for Business of The Year in 2021. These successes are built on the dedication of its staff, its customers’ highly valued loyalty and the company’s engagement in the community.

Courts Mammouth has invested heavily in staff training, shop refurbishments and IT systems to make purchasing both in-store and online as easy and enjoyable as possible, together with a state-of-the-art, same or next day delivery system. As a retailer we are a lean organisation that keeps its own costs low and sources competitively-priced, quality merchandise, both locally and internationally. The company’s accessible credit offering allows customers’ purchases to be spread out comfortably . Courts Mammouth has recently started promoting ‘made in moris’ to the outside world by exporting to other continents.

Courts Mammouth has developed a strong corporate governance culture through its comprehensive Code of Ethics that governs how it deals with all its stakeholders including customers, suppliers and staff, ensuring that transparency and accountability prevail. Its established whistle blowing policy allows red flags to be raised confidentially by any stakeholder or the public at large.
